Waterproofing

It’s important to waterproof concrete structures to keep moisture out of the facility and to protect the structural components of concrete and imbedded reinforcing steel. If the integrity of the concrete is maintained, it can remain waterproof. Polyurethane is considered one of the best waterproofing materials. It can be applied seamlessly and penetrates the surface deeply and evenly. The polyurethane membrane will fill in even the finest cracks in concrete, reducing its water absorbency capacity. Many types of waterproofing systems can be used depending on your home’s structure

Urethane Foam or Epoxy Injection

Urethane Foam or epoxy injection is a cost-effective and permanent way to stabilize and seal cracked or compromised masonry surfaces. Depending on the size of the crack, urethane foam or epoxy is injected into the void and allowed to cure. Once hardened, these materials help form a stable subsurface to support masonry restoration operations.

Tuck Pointing

Tuck pointing entails removing loose or cracked mortar from brickwork or stone installations and replacing its new mortar to ensure structural integrity and to seal out damaging water and moisture. Mortar for tuck pointing must be carefully selected to ensure that its color and texture of the new mortar closely matches the existing material that was not compromised and did not need to be removed.

Masonry Cleaning

Masonry cleaning entails the removal of dirt, debris, paint, and graffiti from various surfaces of masonry structures. Commonly used masonry cleaning techniques include high and low – pressure washing and chemical cleaning. Regardless of the method used, special care is taken to avoid over cleaning – and possibly damaging – aging masonry surfaces.

Grouting

Grouting is used to seal the spaces between masonry installations such as tile or terra cotta. Grout may be colored to blend with the masonry materials, or can be used to create contrast within the masonry design. Grout is typically applied by hand by filling the joints with material and then troweling it out over the adjoining tile or terra cotta. Once the grout has set, a craftsman returns to the area that was grouted and removes any excess material from the face of the installation. As grout is frequently porous, it must be sealed once it is completely dry to protect it from dirt infiltration.

EIFS Cleaning

Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems cleaning, also known as EIFS cleaning, involves removing dirt and grime from the exterior surfaces of structures clad in Dryvit or other types of stucco–like materials. To avoid damaging the thin exterior skin of these structures, mild cleaning agents and low–pressure water is most frequently used to dislodge surface dirt. Manual cleaning is also used to remove dirt in hard–to–reach areas or intricate detail.

Caulking

Caulking is used to seal gaps between masonry surfaces, such as brick or stone, and other architectural elements, including window and door frames, decorative hardware or lighting fixtures. Caulking is most often applied with a gun, and is available in butyl, latex or customized formulations. The color of caulk is selected to match the surfaces surrounding the application site. When applied, the caulking gun is inserted in the gap to be filled. Caulking material is then injected into the void to seal the opening.

Abrasive Cleaning

Heavily soiled masonry surfaces may require abrasive cleaning to effectively remove deposits of grime, paint or graffiti. Abrasive cleaning typically involves high–pressure application of sand or another type of inert, abrasive material directly to the masonry surface. When the abrasive cleaning has been completed, the masonry surface is frequently rinsed with low-pressure water to remove any remaining dirt or cleaning materials.

Pittsburgh Masonry Restoration

Pittsburgh Masonry Restoration That Protects Your Property and Preserves Its Value

Masonry takes a beating in Pittsburgh. Between moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, age, and everyday exposure to the elements, even well-built brick and stone can begin to break down over time. Cracked mortar joints, staining, loose materials, and water intrusion are all signs that restoration may be needed before the damage spreads.

Our team provides Pittsburgh masonry restoration services designed to restore structural integrity, improve curb appeal, and help prevent future deterioration. Whether you own a home, commercial property, historic building, or multi-unit property, we focus on solutions that match the condition of your masonry and the needs of your building.

We believe restoration work should do two things: solve the problem and respect the original character of the structure. That means using the right materials, the right techniques, and the right level of care from start to finish.

Why Masonry Restoration Matters in Pittsburgh

Masonry problems rarely stay small. What starts as minor mortar failure or surface staining can turn into deeper water damage, interior issues, or structural concerns if it is ignored. In a climate like Pittsburgh’s, moisture management is one of the biggest factors in protecting brick and stone surfaces.

With professional Pittsburgh masonry restoration, property owners can:

  • Help prevent water intrusion and long-term moisture damage

  • Restore compromised mortar joints and masonry surfaces

  • Improve the look of aging brick, stone, and concrete

  • Address cracking, separation, and joint deterioration

  • Extend the service life of the building exterior

  • Protect property value and reduce future repair costs

Restoration is not just about appearance. It is about preserving the function and performance of your building envelope.

Our Pittsburgh Masonry Restoration Services

We offer a full range of Pittsburgh masonry restoration services for residential and commercial properties. Each project is different, so we evaluate the condition of the masonry and recommend the work that makes the most sense for your building.

Tuckpointing and Repointing

Mortar joints naturally deteriorate over time. When mortar becomes cracked, loose, or missing, water can enter the wall system and cause additional damage. Tuckpointing (also called repointing) removes failed mortar and replaces it with new mortar that is selected to match the existing material as closely as possible.

This service helps restore strength to the wall and improves the look of the masonry at the same time.

Masonry Cleaning

Brick and stone can collect dirt, staining, paint, and environmental buildup that makes the property look worn down. We provide masonry cleaning services using methods that are appropriate for the surface and condition of the material.

The goal is always to clean the masonry without causing unnecessary damage — especially on older or more delicate surfaces.

Waterproofing and Moisture Protection

Water is one of the biggest threats to masonry. Our Pittsburgh masonry restoration services can include waterproofing solutions that help reduce water absorption and protect the structure from ongoing moisture exposure.

Proper moisture protection can make a major difference in preserving both the appearance and performance of masonry over time.

Crack Repair and Injection

Cracks in masonry or concrete surfaces can worsen if they are not treated correctly. Depending on the type and size of the crack, repair methods may include specialized injection systems that help seal and stabilize compromised areas.

This can be an effective way to address certain forms of cracking while supporting long-term restoration efforts.

Caulking and Joint Sealing

Transitions between masonry and other materials — such as windows, doors, and trim — are common points for moisture intrusion. We seal these vulnerable areas with the appropriate caulking and joint sealants to help protect the building envelope.

This is an important part of many Pittsburgh masonry restoration projects because even small gaps can lead to larger problems over time.

Grouting and Surface Repairs

Some masonry and tile-based surfaces require grouting or targeted surface repairs to restore a clean, finished look and improve durability. We perform detail-focused work that supports both function and appearance, especially in areas where deterioration or separation has occurred.

Restoration Work for Residential and Commercial Properties

We provide Pittsburgh masonry restoration for a variety of property types, including:

  • Homes and townhomes

  • Apartment and multi-unit buildings

  • Office and retail properties

  • Institutional and municipal buildings

  • Older and historic structures

Every property has its own challenges. Some need targeted repairs in a few areas, while others need a broader restoration plan to address moisture, mortar loss, and surface deterioration across the building.
